How often should I wash my locs?
1 - 4 times per month is a healthy average but there are no right or wrong answers. How often depends on things like available time, weather, humidity, air pollution and lifestyle.
What products should I use?
Choosing products is incredibly overwhelming! What do the reviews mention? Does the product do what it claims to do? Do you like the product’s brand ethics? Is it vegan, is it local?
That products that you like, are the products that you like.
Clean and natural products are important to me. Do yo have any recommendations?
Always check the labels and avoid the cheap fillers and other toxic chemicals: Formaldehyde, Paraben, Sodium laureth sulfate, Sulfates, Triclosan, Polyethylene glycol, Sodium chloride, Dimethicone, Silicone, Retinyl palmitate, Quaternium-15, Coal tar, Methylparaben, Resorcinol, Ammonium lauryl sulfate, p-Phenylenediamine and Stearyl alcohol.
Do you recommend a loc soak or a loc detox?
There are wonderful benefits of doing a loc detox once or twice a year to release deep buildup caused by sebum and air pollutants.
I sweat a lot, what can I do?
Sweat happens when the body feels overheated. It serves two purposes, to cool the skin and to release toxins through sweat glands in the skin.
Rinsing sweat in temperate or cool water is the best way to go.
What’s the best way to dry my locs?
In the essence of time, blow drying does speed up an otherwise lengthy process. But blow drying also causes frizziness and sometimes heat damage over long periods of time.
The best way is to gently squeeze your locs in a towel and let them air dry in the sun.
Another option is to purchase a hood dryer (more expensive) or a bonnet attachment for your blow dryer (less expensive). Both of these options provide a gentler drying experience for your locs.
Should I protect my locs at night?
This is a personal choice. Not everyone likes to sleep with a bonnet. Instead, swap your cotton pillowcase with one made of silk or satin. It’s makes a world of a difference to your hair and to your skin!
Should I condition my locs?
This is entirely up to you. It’s your hair, it’s your choice.

A way to test your hook is to compare how easy or difficult it passes back and forth through a loc and how many hairs it picks up at a time. Play with different sizes to know your preference.
When is a single, double and triple crochet hook used?
Double and triple hooks are great for starting locs and starting them quickly. Double hooks are also great for correcting hard bumps and zig zags in the locs.
Single hooks are great for refining and detailing.
What are bumps or zigzags?
These refer to the natural characteristics of locs. Sometimes called “s-curves, butterfly wings or bubbles” these “aesthetic flaws” can sometimes turn into weak spots that can be fixed using the proper tools and techniques. But in most cases, fixing them is personal choice.
